Kinsey sat on her bed staring numbly at the wall. All day long she had been so excited that the guys were finally coming back from their This Time Around Tour, and then the phone had rang. Her eyes were crying, but she didn’t notice the sensation as everything felt empty and quiet around her. When someone bustled into her room, she hardly noticed, finding that she didn’t have the energy to look their direction.
“Kinsey, what’s wrong?” she heard Taylor ask.
“My grandpa died,” she managed, “He had a heart attack and he died this morning.” Before she could process anything, she felt his body sink into the mattress beside her and his arms wrap tightly around her body.
“Oh my god,” he breathed sadly, holding her close as unnoticed tears kept slipping from her cheeks, “I didn’t know.”
“I just found out. Grandma just called,” she replied dumbly, “Am I crying?”
“Yeah, Kins. You’re crying,” he said softly.
“You’re not going to make fun of me for crying?” she asked, looking over at him for the first time.
“Absolutely not,” he stated, pulling her against his body again and holding her there until Zac and Isaac finally arrived.
