Upon the completion of their 1997 promotional tour, the Jackson family had decided to have the Hansons over for a relaxing, home cooked meal in a familiar place. Kinsey had spent the better part of the day hiding all of her Hanson memorabilia, removing all of her posters and pinups from her walls and placing them carefully in a large box under her bed. When asked what she was doing by her mother, Kinsey had responded with “Like I want them to know I have had pictures of them up in my room! Seriously, Mom!” She would have never admitted that having their posters up made her feel like they weren’t really on the other side of the world, and that the few times they had called hadn’t brightened her spirits for at least a week each time. She looked at the clock and gasped, finding that she only had a few minutes left until they were due to arrive. She tore around her room, rushing to put away the last items until she had finally placed the last picture in the box. With a sigh, she shoved the lid on before kicking it under her bed.

She moved to her full length mirror, studying herself carefully. Her body had begun to develop rapidly in the last few months. Childhood chicken legs were developing shape, slim hips were gaining curves, and her chest, well… she had gone from an A cup to a C cup over the course of the last year and she wasn’t too happy about it. She stared at her newly formed breasts in the mirror before placing her hands on them in an attempt to push them back into her chest.

“I hate my boobs!” she yelled to no one in particular.

“So do I,” a voice from the doorway said. She whipped around, sufficiently mortified when she saw the unmistakable face of one Taylor Hanson.

“Shut up. It’s not like I can help it, you know. It’s a thing called puberty,” she defended.

“Hello, voice changing? I know all about puberty and the horribleness it brings,” he replied.

“Can, uh, we not talk about this anymore? I mean, I haven’t seen you for over half a year,” she said, feeling suddenly uncomfortable. He just smiled at her, the smile that she had become used to over the years, not the smile he gave to the cameras.

“I missed you,” he said honestly.

“I missed you, too. It felt like you guys were never coming home.”

“We’ll always come home,” he said, “Now are you going to hug me or what?” Despite herself, she felt the corner of her mouth pull up into a smile as her legs moved towards him. His arms pulled her tight against him as he wrapped his arms around her lower back. Instinctively, her arms went around his neck and she let herself relish in the rare kind moment between them.

“When you two are done making out, we’d like to see Kinsey, too,” Zac said from the hallway. With a gasp, they pulled apart.

“Yeah, we were so clearly making out,” Kinsey retorted sarcastically, fighting the red flush that threatened to spread across her cheeks.

“That’s what it looked like to me,” Zac shrugged.

“Like you even know what that is,” Taylor said, shoving Zac against the wall as he walked towards the stairs.

“I do too! I know more than you do!”

“Zac, shut up. You know nothing,” Isaac laughed, turning his attention to Kinsey, “Now you, missy, are a sight for sore eyes.”

“Hey Ike. It’s great to see you!” she said, giving him a big hug.

“You look great! Where’s our little Kinsey going?” Isaac teased.

“Shut up, Ike. You’re embarrassing me,” she laughed, receiving the huge hug Zac was giving her.

“Kinsey! I missed you! There was no one around to put Taylor in his place!”

“That’s the only reason you missed me?”

“No. I also missed you missed you,” he replied. Kinsey smiled as she looked at him.

“Well I missed you missed you, too. Now let’s go downstairs and get some food!

“Yay! I missed Mama Jackson’s cookin’!” Zac yelled, taking off down the stairs.

“I’m glad to see that some things never change,” Kinsey said with a smile.

“You don’t have to worry about us changing,” Isaac replied before they headed downstairs together.
